EURIE 2018 Date and Venue

EURIE 2018 will be held on February 14-16 in Istanbul. The venue will be Lutfi Kirdar International Congress and Convention Center (ICEC). Lütfi Kırdar - ICEC, in the heart of the Congress Valley, has the capacity to host all kinds of organizations from conventions to fairs, from concerts to exhibitions with its halls in daylight and a view of the Bosphorus at its location of the cross section of Istanbul’s elegant restaurants, luxury brands and fashion district. There are many three-, four- and five-star hotels within walking distance to Istanbul Lütfi Kırdar - ICEC and its location provides easy and fast transportation to the important historical places of the city.

EURIE 2018 Conference Call for Proposals

EURIE 2018 conference theme is “Tracking the New Path in Internationalization”. You are invited to submit whole panel or individual presentation proposals on the topics below:
• New Patterns and Trends in Student and Staff Mobility
• Renewed Emphasis on International Learning
• New Regions, New Players in International Education
• New Technologies for Higher Education

Thailand to Allow Foreign HEIs

Thailand’s government officials have announced that they are gettting ready to allow foreign higher education institutions to operate in Thailand. In an effort to improve the country’s higher education sector and create a highly skilled workforce for an innovation-driven economy, foreign HEIs will be allowed to open branch campuses. These campuses will operate in the country’s special economic zones. They will be asked to offer only those academic programs that are not offered by the Thai institutions themselves and emphasize vocational training.

International Student Enrolments in Russia Increase

Over the past decade, international student enrolments in Russia incresed from around 100,000 to nearly 300,000 in 2015, representing a threefold growth. Russia has expanded its scholarship program to attract international students. It is also benefiting from being an affordable destination. Most of the international students come from the CIS countries. Others come from China, India and Vietnam. In recent years, Russia has announced various higher education reform initiatives, such as the highly advertised Project 5-100, curriculum reform, and an alliance of top 15 institutions to render its higher education sector globally more competitive.


UC Berkeley and Sustainability

UC Berkeley and the Berkeley Lab have organized “Cal Future Forum: Our Changing World” a public event to highlight the latest research findings about climate, energy, conservation, biodiversity, and farming. Academics and policy makers discussed creating solutions for energy efficiency, sustainability, and the environment.

New Utrecht-based Lab on Brain Development

Utrecht University and UMC Utrecht will open the MIND Facility, an innovative research center in the field of neurological research. Advanced stem cell technology and microscopy will be used to understand the origins and development of the human brain. The MIND Facility aspires to attract researchers from a wide range of disciplines and become a center of expertise.
